Hide From The Hulk Escape Guide: Portals and Propulsion

Last updated 2026-10-23Unofficial player article

Replace the route that stopped working

  • First move: Choose a usable direction instead of repeatedly pushing toward the same blocked or dangerous route.
  • Portal route: Dr Strange places two linked portals and moves through the pair.
  • Backward movement: Cyclops’s propulsion pushes him backward, so choose the landing space before using it.

Escape toward a usable destination

When a route stops working in Hide From The Hulk, make the next decision about where you can go now. Do not keep committing toward the same space simply because it was your original plan. A useful escape gives you room to recover and decide what to do next.

Dr Strange’s Sling Ring provides a concrete route-building option: place one portal, place the other and walk through the linked pair. The demonstration below shows how that can change a player’s route around an elevator area. The important part of the plan is the destination, rather than the act of placing a portal by itself.

Build an alternate portal routeWatch both portal placements and the exit position, then think about the space you would need after arriving.

Complete the portal pair before relying on it

A single placement is not the complete movement plan. You need the linked pair, and the second location determines where the route takes you. Choose that location while you still have time to make a useful decision, rather than waiting until the pressure leaves you no comfortable choice.

Once you cross, continue away from the point of arrival if staying there would recreate the same problem. The purpose of the route is to give you another option, not to turn the exit into a place you must defend. Recover your view of the encounter before deciding whether to rejoin it.

If the portal route does not currently lead somewhere useful, use another direction instead of treating the ability as an obligation. A prepared option is valuable because you can choose it when the situation fits.

A deliberate portal escape

  1. Choose the destination

Pick the space you want to reach and what you intend to do from there.

  2. Place both ends

Complete the linked pair before making it the only route in your plan.

  3. Continue after crossing

Recover room to move and locate the fight again before committing to another action.

Use backward propulsion with room behind you

Cyclops offers a different movement option: his propulsion beam pushes the player backward. Before using it, consider the space in that direction. Choose the move when that backward destination helps you leave the current pressure or recover a better position.

Do not treat the push as a substitute for knowing where you are going. Movement away from the opponent can still leave you in an awkward place if you have ignored what is behind you. Keep the destination connected to the next thing you want to do.

The choice between a linked route and a backward push depends on the role and movement option you actually have. Neither needs to be described as a universal escape trick. Use the known action for the situation it can solve.

Recover the team plan after you move

An escape is useful when it gives you another decision. After moving, find the opponent and your teammates again. Decide whether to return from a clearer position, keep creating space or let the fight pass before contributing.

If several players are trying to recover at once, leave room for them to move too. Do not turn the new destination into the same crowded route you were trying to leave. The co-op guide explains how to reconnect those individual decisions with the group.

For the next encounter, prepare an alternate route earlier. The destruction guide helps you separate the place you are fighting from the route you would use to leave it. That preparation makes an escape a planned option instead of the final reaction after everything else has failed.
